It all started at Iasi ::

The first Romanian operetta, “Baba Harca”/“The Old Witch” was presented for the first time, in Iasi, on 26th of December 1848, on the National Theatre stage (at that time the theatre was in Copou). The music for this operetta was composed by Alexandru A. Flechtenmacher, with a text written by Matei Millo. Alexandru A. Flechtenmacher also composed the music for different dramatic creations, written by Vasile Alecsandri, Dimitrie Bolintineanu and Constantin Negruzzi.
